Fraud Charges
The defence of fraud charges is complex. Even where a case may seem hopeless to the person charged, there are many things that can be done to increase the chances of an acquittal, and to reduce the sentence in the event of a conviction. Often, the disclosure provided to the accused by the prosecution fails to include many relevant documents. You have a right to production of the relevant documents, so they can be examined by you and your lawyer, and decisions can be made whether they can contribute to a defence.
While fraud convictions often result in a jail term, there are numerous circumstances which can be taken into account by a court to place the accused into consideration for either fines and/or probation, or a sentence involving house arrest.
